Packard Bell still exists? Why wasn’t I told?!
Yes, Virginia, there is still a Packard Bell, though it no longer sells computers in the US like it did during the 1990s. These days, as our record on the company shows, it focuses its efforts in Europe — something that apparently has made it attractive to Lenovo, which is looking to buy it.
Lenovo, you’ll recall, bought out IBM’s PC operations in 2005. That’s a pretty good toehold in the computer business, but Lenovo figures it can do even better by expanding its geographic reach.

The first PC I ever bought was a Packard Bell. It cost me an even $1,000, in 1994, and I got it at Sears. It held up for about four or five years before I retired it.
