Random business-journalist observation.
It’s just a quirk of all the headline-reading I do throughout the day, but there are two celebrity names that overlap with economic terms that often throw me.
- Barry Bonds — Back when he was actively breaking records, I would sometimes come across a particularly worded headline that could work for the outfielder or the securities market and become confused. “Outlook for Bonds Improves” would lead me to think, “Huh? Was Barry injured? And what’s this doing on the business pages?” This would last just for a millisecond, but it always gave me a laugh when it happened.
- Steve Jobs — This morning’s triggering headline: “Jobs Business Plan Meets Altair 8800 in Highway 101 Tech Museum.” For just a second, I was confused at how the folks in Silicon Valley were using the Tech Museum as part of a jobs plan for the Valley. Then I realized, “Oh, Steve‘s business plan for Apple.”
No great moral to this story. Like I said — just a funny quirk.
