What if we are in a recession?
If the economy heads south, how do think it will it affect your organization? How will it affect the way you manage your business affairs?
It seems to me that the best businesses are managed to thrive in good times and bad — but that’s much easier to say than to do. If any of my readers can offer their own specific insights into the process, I’ll be grateful to hear them.

Tim - thanks for posting this question on a couple of levels. It’d be very interesting to see a wider spectrum of reactions from your readership. My “feelings” are that the scope and extent is under-estimated in its’ own right but also because the scope of the housing and credit messes are just beginning to be appreciated. The real trigger here though was that businesses have re-leveraged themselves and instead of using that money for capex or hiring have used it for buybacks at the peak of the market. As a result they’ll be headed into bad circumstances more weakened than anybody seems to appreciate. So Far !
In case anyone’s interested and FWIW here are a couple of specific posts on the circumstances on enterprise performance evaluation that might be worth a peek or so:
