How could I persuade you to subscribe to this blog?
Subscribers are the lifeblood of a blog.
Mind you, I love it when anybody stops by, whether from an outside link, from the Hoover’s site, or because they bookmarked this page. But the folks who are most tapped into the themes here, the folks who keep me honest and keep stoking the boiler, are my regular readers — and the easiest way to be a regular reader is to subscribe.
Being a subscriber is as easy as falling off a log.
- If you don’t use RSS feeds already, let me reassure you that they’re a snap to figure out and they’ll totally change the way you read blogs — for the better. (It’s not called “REALLY SIMPLE Syndication” for nothing!) You can find out all about them in the video posted here.
- If you already use RSS, just click on the ginormous orange button above (or on the similar button at the top of the sidebar).
I don’t expect that everything I write here will tickle everyone’s fancy. But I’m working to make this blog appealing enough that you’ll want to make it a regular part of your reading diet.
And that’s why I’m asking you the question in the title of this post. If there’s something I could do here to get you to subscribe, what is it? I’d love to have your thoughts so I can make this blog better work better for you.
The floor is open for comments — and thanks for your feedback!

You don’t need to persuade me at all, Tim, because I’m already subscribed! And you’re very right that using an RSS reader completely changes the way you follow blogs.
Curious if number of blog subscribers is an important measurement of success for you, as Jackie Huba said it was for her Church of the Customer blog during yesterday’s discussion at the Austin Social Media Breakfast.
In fact, Bryan, it was Jackie’s comment that inspired this post. I’ve tracked subscribers via Feedburner for quite a while now, but it’s been one metric among many. I’m putting more focus on it after hearing what Jackie had to say.
(Oh, and thanks for being a subscriber!)
Hm, if only you had a giant RSS button. Oh wait, there it is :-)
Seriously though, what if you made your sidebar icon bigger? Also, “subscribe to RSS feed” might not mean anything to non techies. It might help to say “Get updates: RSS | Email” with appropriately large and friendly looking buttons for each. The main thing is that “subscribe” has negative connotations. “Follow updates” is also a nicer substitute for “subscribe”.
