800 and counting.

An Atari 800 — memories of my youth!

Typically I let round numbers pass me by. I didn’t get especially excited when I had my 20th birthday, or my 30th. The novelty of hitting my 5,000th or 10,000th message on Twitter wore off long ago. I’ve stopped watching the odometer for the next time a big row of zeroes comes up.

This, though, happens to be the 800th post to this blog. I saw the “Published (799)” on the blog dashboard this morning at the same time I was already laying out some plans for my bloggery across the rest of this year, so I thought I’d take this round-number opportunity to share some of those plans with you.

Briefly, here’s what I’m after:

  • 200 more posts this year. (Hey, if we’re talking about round numbers . . . )
  • Regular installments in the Company of the Day series.
  • More book reviews, plus “book memos” that capture thoughts about books in shorter, quicker form than a full-dress review.
  • More interviews and writeups of events that I attend.
  • More posts on my favorite business themes, including (a) how neuroscience informs our decisions and working methods; (b) the future of energy use; (c) ecologically and socially sustainable business practices; (d) how the social media are reshaping business practices; and (e) how personal productivity can apply across enterprises.
  • Continued efforts to make sense of the global economic crunch.
  • Steady, small improvements to the blog’s functionality and usability. (You may have noticed some of the changes recently made — for example the ability to track updates to a comment thread through a single mouse click.)
  • Video posts.

And above all . . .

  • More interaction with readers like YOU.

Do you have suggestions for what you’d like to see here during the rest of 2008? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Tim, it’s great to see that you have goals for the rest of the year, I can only stress though that you need to make sure that they’re beneficial. Don’t set a number that you feel may be too high because then the quality of your posts may suffer. We, as the reader, do not care if you’re @ 1000 posts by the end of the year or not; we’re only concerned with you continuing to put out strong material. So if you feel these goals will help your blog, by all means, pursue them. But make sure that this is really what the blog needs.

CP — Rest assured that I have PLENTY of material for 200 more posts this year — and that I’m committed to giving you quality before quantity, always.
