Thoughts on today’s Austin Social Media Breakfast.
1. A good time was had by all, I think it’s safe to say, when the Austin Social Media Breakfast convened this morning at Genuine Joe’s.
2. Yes, I really DO talk with my hands that much. ——–>
3. Bryan Person and Amie Paxton, as usual, did a bang-up job with arrangements — and I’d like to thank them again for asking me to speak.
4. My goal, as I explained it to the group this morning, was to give them a painless history lesson (”the oral dose rather than the injection,” I called it), and people seemed to like getting a take on social media quite different from what we usually talk about.
5. Joe Doyle took a good pic of me shrugging (it’s a common pose with me — there’s a lot I don’t know) and another of the little handout I passed around.
6. On a day when I’ve been fighting a head cold, my pal Mike Chapman was nice enough to treat me to coffee, for which I’m grateful.
7. Before the talk got started, I got to chat with several old friends, plus Natanya Anderson, a fellow UT-liberal-artist-turned-social-media-geek.
8. After the talk, I had a long palaver with Jason Ford, Paul Nobles, and Brian Massey. Among the major topics: what e-books should someday look like. (Short version: cool enough to make you pass out.)
9. There was quite a Hoover’s presence, including my current and past bosses, plus Hoover’s alums Rusty Fincke and Leslie Kuykendall.
10. Other folks I met or friends I saw again (with apologies in advance to those I’m surely overlooking) included Jim Cahill, Bryan Jones, Doug Wick, Ed Guinn, Heather Strout, Aaron Strout, Karen Kreps, and the reliably cheerful John Johansen.
11. I’m reworking the text of my talk into essay form and expect to post it here later today.
Thanks again to everybody for making this a fun event!

I know this comment is coming in late.
But the fact that you use words like “palaver” so causally is just one of the many reasons I read your blog Tim.
