Our Day in Social Media: Breakfast in San Antonio, Coverage on Mashable.

Today started very early for me, but for a nifty reason: my pal Bryan Person picked me up and drove us both down to San Antonio so that I could speak — that’s me pontificating in the picture — to the first-ever San Antonio Social Media Breakfast, which was organized by the estimable Jennifers (Milikien and Navarrete) and which was, in a word, awesome. People, dialogue, food — all great.

Folks also said nice things about my presentation, which I gave because Bryan has succumbed to Austin’s dreaded allergens (fie on you, cedar pollen! fie!) and didn’t have much voice left. It was a slightly different version of “The Social Media Are Not So New,” the same talk I gave in December at the Austin Social Media Breakfast.

This time around, we — by which I mean Todd O’Neill — captured video of the event, which you can view here. The picture is grainy, but the audio is good (it improves after the first minute or two).

One thing that the video allows you to see is the very long Q&A afterward, which Bryan and I both remarked went in interesting directions — and quite different directions than the discussion after last month’s talk. Included: references to Dorkbot, the telegraph, and our nation’s most distinguished diplomat.

As though that weren’t enough social-media fun for one day, when I got back to the office I found Hoover’s — and more specifically the @hoovers Twitter account — listed in the august company of businesses like Honda, Southwest Airlines, Marriott, and Home Depot in Jennifer Van Grove’s Mashable story, “40 of the Best Twitter Brands and the People Behind Them.” Thanks to Jennifer for reporting and writing such a detailed story, which I will be stealing from without remorse studying with keen interest as I work to keep improving the way we talk on Twitter.

So, a rewarding day on the social-media front. But for now, I’m looking forward to some rewarding sleep before we’re back at it again tomorrow.

Tim:

I can’t thank you enough for stepping in for me at the last minute (blasted cedar pollen!), and it was a real pleasure to chat with you, too, in the car on the way to and from San Antonio.

See you next time.
