These were the top business headlines when I checked Google News this morning:

So, layoffs spreading, consumer confidence in freefall, home prices through the floor . . . but Verizon, of all companies, is doing okay. (No telling when they’ll announce layoffs of their own.)

It’s not much, but it’s something, and it reminds me that, despite all the gloom we encounter when we read the business pages these days, there are still companies that are making money and growing their businesses.

This might not be a reason for profound optimism, but at least it’s food for thought if you find yourself getting too down about the state of the economy.
